On the afternoon of October 28, 2022, at hall 703-E1, the University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) held a thematic seminar within the framework of the Vietnam Autumn Law Forum (VALF) with the theme "Equality before the law in the rule of law: Theoretical and practical issues".

 

Participating in the hall were many reputable experts and legal scholars such as Prof. Dr. Vo Khanh Vinh - Former Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai – Former Dean of the VNU School of Law; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung - Former Vice Dean of the VNU School of Law; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, ... and other delegates are officials, and students from agencies, organizations, and training institutions. In addition, the conference also attracted a large number of delegates participating through the Zoom platform.

The conference was divided into two sessions. The first session was titled "General issues on the principle of equality before the law in the rule-of-law state" and was moderated by Prof. Dr. Vo Khanh Vinh and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Minh Tuan. The second session of the Seminar revolved around "Equality before the law in the legal professions" moderated by Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung.

In the first session, the seminar had 04 speakers presenting the presentation including The presentation on "Equality in the rule-of-law state: Theoretical and legal issues" (Prof.Dr. Vo Khanh Vinh); Presentation on "Equality in the rule-of-law state - Non-traditional approach" (Dr. Mai Van Thang); Presentation on "Equality in the history of political and legal thought: Content and meaning" (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Duc Minh); Presentation on "Equality before the law and the right to non-discrimination in international human rights law" (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Cong Giao- Vu Minh Chau).

After the break, the seminar continued its second session with 04 presentations: "Election and the principle of electoral equality in Vietnam today" (Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung); Presentation on "Equality values concerning the model and function of criminal proceedings" (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Hanh); Presentation on "Principle of equality before the law of involved parties in civil procedure" (LLM. Tran Cong Thinh); Presentation on "Equality before the law in the field of land and environment" (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Hong Nhung).

The Executive Board gave the attendees approximately 15 minutes to ask the presenters questions after the Seminar. The majority of the inquiries dealt with subjects like the rule of law, how the principle of equality before the law is applied,...

After nearly 04 hours, the seminar took place successfully. Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung thanked all the delegates for their  participation in the seminar, especially the experts and scholars who brought to the Seminar the high-qualified presentations.
